plants, trees and shrubs. If you like gardens it’s a great place to
visit. It’s open all year. Monday- Saturday 8am - 8pm. Closed Sundays.
Left at end of drive, go to flashing light (10km) at highway 60, turn
right. At Golden Lake (15km) turn right at crossroad. Go through the
reserve and turn left. Watch for signs.
Petawawa National Forest Visitor Center (613) 589-2880
The Petawawa National Forest is 98 square-km and has carried out forestry
research since 1918. The visitor center has walking trails, a road
tour, forestry exhibits and a two story tree house. Hours 9am - 9pm
June to September . It’s on highway 17, 17 km west of Petawawa
Algonquin Park (Park information (705) 633-5572)
The Basin Lake entrance is only a few miles from Round Lake Resort.
This area is not developed and there is no visitor center. Might be
worth a visit for a picnic. Turn right at the end of the drive onto
the highway, just past Bonnechere Provincial Park (on your right)
turn left onto Turners Road. Continue up this road to Turner’s Camp
for park information and permits. Algonquin Park is about 10 km past
Turners Camp.
The Algonquin Park Visitor Center and Logging Museum
About a one hour drive from Round Lake. Located on highway 60 past
Whitney.
Visiting the Barron River Canyon in Algonquin Park is an awesome experience.
It was carved out of the Canadian shield by the water of the great
lakes which drained through it millions of years ago. You can take
the Barron River Canyon hiking trail which is starts from the Achray
road leading into the park. To find it you should obtain a map of
Algonquin Park from the Turner’s Camp office. Or you can take a bus
tour to the Barron River Canyon. Call (613) 687-5654. It starts from
Black Bay Road near Pembroke.
Bonnechere Caves, Eganville (613) 628-2002
Interesting underground caves. Worth a visit. Also interesting to
see the falls on the river near the caves. Hours 10am - 4pm
Greenbeck Llama Farm (613) 732-2709
Includes a mini train and a nature tour. It’s located on the Green
Lake Road. Turn off highway 41 south from Golden lake. The farm is
2.5 km on the left.

Five kilormeters east of Pembroke at intersection of old highway 17
and County Road 24.
Mineral quarry
Interesting quarry at Quadville. You can keep any of the minerals
you find in the quarry. Gift shop with mineral samples for sale. Take
Highway 512 south of Killaloe to Foymount, then take 515 to Quadville.
Canadian Forces Base, Petawawa
If you’re close by and have time on your hands you might want to visit
the two museums on the base, the Canadian Airborne Forces Museum and
the CFB Petawawa Military Museum.

The Maddona House, Combermere (613) 756-6552
The Maddona House is a fascinating gift shop, book store and pioneer
museum. It was started by a Russian woman in the early 60s and now
run by a religious group dedicated to helping the poor of the world.
It sells clothing made from the wool of sheep that are kept on the
property. Hours 10am - 5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday (after labour
day open Thurs-Sat 2-5)
Combermere is a lovely drive about 10km south from Barry’s Bay on
highway 58. You will pass Mount Madawaska and drive along the shores
of Lake Kamaniskeg.
